DEFINITION

A stock fund, also called an equity fund, is a mutual fund, ETF, closed-end fund, or unit investment trust that mainly invests in stocks. A stock represents ownership in a company and a share of its assets and profits. The kinds of stocks held by the fund depend on the fund's objectives, policies, and strategies.
